College Prep & First Year Support

If you're just starting to think about college, I can help you become a candidate that stands out from the crowd. We'll boost your scores on standardized tests (like the SAT, GED, or GRE) by using a personalized curriculum to identify where you can grow, whether that's in the subject matter or test-taking skills. I can also help you write exceptional admissions essays that demonstrate the high level of writing proficiency my colleagues expect from the best undergraduate students. Finally, I can make sure you have the tools to persist through the first (and often most stressful) year of college.

Writing & Research Coaching

For undergraduates and high school students, I can help you create exceptional research papers and presentations by supporting you from the earliest brainstorm to the final submission. From academic databases and scholarly sources, to editing, proofreading, and mastering citation styles, I can share strategies that the most successful students use. The best research starts with what fascinates you. That's why my style puts your curiosity first. My role is to be an insider who can reveal the little-known tricks, demystify jargon, and cultivate your unique voice as an author.

Learning That's Approachable & Accessible

I strongly believe that everyone should have a chance to succeed in higher education. That's why I am strongly committed to making my services approachable and accessible to all types of learners.I especially love to work with first-generation college students and students with ADHD because I have been both. I know that things would have been so much easier for me with just a little bit of help. I want to share the lessons I learned so that you don't have to do it the hard way!

College Prep & First Year Support

The majority of college drop outs happen during the first year.† That's why the time between when you first start applying for colleges and when you complete your first year is the most critical for your success.I can help you prepare and follow through with a variety of services:

  • Improve your reading, writing, and math skills for standardized tests including the SAT, GED, and GRE

  • Write exceptional college admissions essays

  • Apply for scholarship and financial aid opportunities

  • Build study skills that set you up for academic achievement

  • Succeed in first-year general education courses in the humanities, math, and social sciences

I know what it's like to feel lost and overwhelmed by everything that you have to do. My goal is to do more than help you get into your dream school, but also help you stay there by using evidence-backed strategies for success.

I'm a university librarian and professor who has worked with college students both 1-on-1 and in the classroom to excel on everything from your first research paper to your capstone project. You can find more about my professional history on my LinkedIn profile.

I'm passionate about my belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed in higher education. When I started as an undergraduate, I was a first-generation college student struggling just to catch up. Eventually, I earned an M.S. in Library Science from UNC Chapel Hill. Now, I'm a published researcher who's led a team of 20+ employees to provide on-demand research support at one of the country's top 50 universities. Throughout all that, I had to learn many lessons the hard way. I want your path to be an easier one.

Besides that? I live in NC with my amazing partner, these three rascally cats, and whole crew of green anole lizards. I've been playing D&D since I was in elementary school. My favorite Star Trek is Deep Space 9. I'm also a classically trained musician. If you're interested in bonus music theory lessons, let's talk!
